Launch of Western Sydney Carpool

It was a great pleasure to launch a new carpooling initiative which will match Western Sydney commuters with similar journeys through a new online service.

The Western Sydney Carpool Project is a free service which matches commuters whose journeys start within five kilometres of each other and who are travelling to a similar destination.

The project aims to create a network of commuters from across Western Sydney with similar travel patterns who minimise their carbon footprint, reduce traffic and save money by sharing their journeys to and from work.

The project is modelled on the successful Northern Rivers Carpool Project, which was launched in February 2010.

Across Western Sydney more than 60 per cent of commuters travel by car and most cars only have a single occupant, so it makes sense to share the journey and fill up car seats.

It’s also a great way to make new friends and reduce fuel, toll and parking expenses.

Priority parking is available in selected car parks around western Sydney for registered participants, so there are plenty of reasons to get involved in this fantastic initiative.

Commuters who want to sign up to the free service should register at www.wscarpool.org

The Western Sydney Carpool Project was seed-funded by Transport for NSW and supported by initiating partners Roads and Maritime Services, Parramatta City Council, Penrith City Council, the University of Western Sydney, the Western Sydney Health Network, the Western Sydney Community Forum, the NSW Office of State Revenue, the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage and Rouse Hill Town Centre.

Welcome to the Hawkesbury website (click to watch video):

As the State Member for Hawkesbury, my job is to represent the people who elected me as their representative in the New South Wales Parliament.

I feel privileged to represent the Hawkesbury electorate as I have lived and worked here my entire life and my family have a very long association with the area dating back almost 200 years.

The Hawkesbury electorate extends from Kellyville and Glenhaven in the south to Mellong, Colo Heights and Higher Macdonald in the north, and from Berambing and Bilpin in the west to Berowra Waters in the east.

The Hawkesbury electorate is adorned with hardworking traditional rural families combined with an abundance of younger aspirational families, many of whom moved to the electorate through the rapid growth of the Rouse Hill development.

It is one of the rare places where one can walk through quiet, leafy, tree-lined rural streets and yet be a mere 35 minutes to the thriving metropolis of Sydney.

There are over 74000 people who live in the Hawkesbury State electorate.

I hope you find this website informative and interesting.

Please feel free to contact my office if there is any State issue that I can be of assistance with.
